Mobile Car Paint Contamination Removal in Sussex, Surrey & Hampshire
Car paint contamination removal covering paint overspray, road line paint, tar, concrete splatter, and DIY splashes. If something has landed on your car’s paintwork that shouldn’t be there, MAX WAX removes it safely without damaging the underlying finish. Our mobile teams cover Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. For the most challenging jobs you can also bring your car to our workshop at Brighton City Airport, Shoreham-by-Sea. We travel further afield for fleet and commercial contamination events.
Time matters. Most paint contamination becomes harder and more expensive to remove the longer it sits. Aerosol overspray can bond with clearcoat in 24 to 72 hours. Road tar and bitumen harden and stain within days. Concrete and render etch on first contact with rain. The sooner you call, the less work your paint needs.

Paint Overspray Removal
Paint overspray happens when commercial buildings, fences, or large structures are spray painted nearby. Tiny atomised paint particles drift on the wind and settle on vehicle paintwork, glass, trim, lights, and wheels, leaving the surface gritty to the touch and visibly contaminated.
Over the years, we’ve handled overspray events affecting up to 40 vehicles at a single site. In each case, our removal process uses fine-grade clay bars, dedicated solvents, and machine polishing where required to lift particles off the clearcoat without compromising the paint.
Paint Dots & Drift Damage
Paint dots are larger droplets, usually visible to the eye, that have travelled further from the source before landing. They are common when spray painting takes place close to parked vehicles, or when wind catches a sprayer mid-job. Dots are often more bonded than fine overspray and may need targeted solvent treatment plus polishing to remove fully.
Road Line Paint Removal
White or yellow road marking paint can be thrown up by passing vehicles when fresh, or splashed onto your car if you’ve driven over a new lining job before it’s cured. It’s particularly stubborn because it’s designed to bond hard to road surfaces. We use safe paint-specific solvents to break the bond without lifting your clearcoat.
Tar & Bitumen Spot Removal
Summer, in particular, is tar season. Drive past a road resurfacing job and hot bitumen can splatter your lower panels, sills, wheels, and underbody. Left alone, it hardens, stains, and traps grit. We use professional tar removers (citrus-based or solvent depending on severity), followed by paint correction if staining has set in.
Concrete, Render & Plaster Splatter
Building work next door, scaffolding overhead, or a new render job. Concrete, mortar, plaster, lime splashes, and liquid plastic roofing materials are all alkaline and aggressive on automotive clearcoat. They etch quickly if rained on. We treat with neutralising chemistry first to stop further damage, then mechanically lift the deposit and polish the affected area.

Wet Paint Contact Transfer
Brushed against a freshly painted gate, fence, or railing? Paint transfer is one of the most common contamination jobs we see. Treatment depends on what type of paint transferred (water-based emulsion is easier than oil-based gloss) and how long it’s been there. Catch it within 48 hours and we can usually remove it with no clearcoat compromise.
DIY Paint Splashes
Decorating the front of the house? Painting the garden fence with masonry paint? Drips happen, and naturally they tend to land on whatever is parked on the drive. As a result, we routinely remove emulsion, gloss, masonry paint, and undercoat splashes from bodywork, glass, and wheels.
Aerosol & Rattle-Can Drift
Neighbours respraying garden furniture, kids respraying a bike, a quick touch-up that drifted further than expected. In other words, aerosol mist behaves like a finer version of commercial overspray and is removed using the same techniques: clay decontamination followed by polishing where needed.
Graffiti & Vandalism Spray Paint
Spray paint vandalism on vehicles is its own challenge. The paint is heavy, deliberate, and often covers a large area. However, successful removal depends on how quickly we can get to the vehicle, the type of spray paint used, and the condition of the underlying clearcoat. In many cases we can fully restore the panel without respraying. Send photos via WhatsApp for a fast assessment.
Industrial Fallout & Rail Dust
If you live or park near a railway, industrial estate, or factory, you may be dealing with iron particles (rail dust, brake dust) bonding to your paintwork. These show as tiny orange specks and feel rough to the touch. To address this, we treat with iron-removing fallout chemistry that turns the particles purple as they dissolve, followed by clay and polish.

Recent Job: The Kind of Contamination We Remove

“I have just collected my car from Shoreham Max Wax following an accident with paint spray over my car. The work done by the team at Shoreham was fantastic. The car finish is looking as new again. Would recommend all day long.”
Our Car Paint Contamination Removal Process
We work mobile across Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire, or you can bring the car to our workshop at Brighton City Airport, Shoreham-by-Sea for the most challenging jobs. Either way, the process is the same:
- Inspection. First, we assess what’s contaminated the vehicle and how deep the damage goes.
- Safe wash & decontamination prep. Snow foam and pH-neutral wash to remove loose dirt without grinding it into the clearcoat.
- Targeted removal. The right chemistry for the contaminant, whether fallout remover, tar remover, paint solvent, or alkaline neutraliser, applied with care.
- Mechanical lift. Next, clay bar work to pull bonded particles off the surface.
- Paint correction (if required). Machine polishing to remove any micro-marring left behind.
- Protection. Finally, wax, sealant, or ceramic coating reapplied as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly should car paint contamination removal be done?
Car paint contamination removal works best when done as fast as possible. Aerosol overspray can bond with clearcoat within 24β72 hours. Tar and bitumen harden within days. Alkaline contaminants like concrete and render etch on first contact with rain. Same-day or next-day treatment gives the best chance of full removal without paint correction.
Can paint overspray be removed without damaging the clearcoat?
Yes, in most cases. We use fine-grade clay bars, dedicated paint-safe solvents, and controlled machine polishing. Where the overspray has been left long enough to deeply bond with the clearcoat, light paint correction may be needed but the panel does not normally require respraying.
Who is liable for paint overspray damage to my vehicle?
Usually the contractor responsible for the spraying, or their insurer. Liability and recovery is a legal matter we cannot advise on, but we provide the documentation (photos, condition report, and itemised invoice) that you or your solicitor will need to make a claim.
What’s the difference between paint overspray and paint dots?
Overspray is fine atomised mist that leaves a gritty texture across large areas of the vehicle. Paint dots are visible droplets that have travelled further before landing. They are individually identifiable to the eye and often more deeply bonded. Both respond to similar removal techniques but dots may need more targeted attention.
Can you remove tar and bitumen spots from car paint?
Yes. In fact, tar and bitumen removal is a routine job for us, especially through the summer roadworks season. We use professional citrus or solvent-based tar removers depending on severity. Where staining has set in, follow-up paint correction restores the finish.
How do I get fresh road line paint off my car?
Do not try to scrub it off yourself with abrasive cleaners. You will mar the clearcoat. Road marking paint is engineered to bond hard to surfaces. We use specific paint-removing solvents that break the bond chemically, leaving your clearcoat intact.
Will paint contamination removal damage my ceramic coating?
A ceramic coating actually makes contamination easier to remove because it stops particles bonding directly to the clearcoat. That is one of its core benefits. However, if aggressive removal is needed and the coating is compromised, we can reinstate it. We are a Williams Racing approved ceramic installer.
Do you handle multi-vehicle fleet contamination events?
Yes. We’ve successfully restored up to 40 vehicles at a single site and have the team and equipment to manage commercial-scale contamination events efficiently. Get in touch with vehicle count, location, and timeline for a coordinated response.
How much does car paint contamination removal cost?
Our standard hourly rate is Β£75+VAT. Total cost depends on the type of contamination, how long it has been on the vehicle, and how widespread it is. The fastest way to get an accurate quote is to send photos via WhatsApp.
Do you offer mobile paint contamination removal?
Yes. Most of our work is mobile, covering Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. We come to your home, workplace, or fleet site. For larger commercial events we travel further afield.
If someone else caused the contamination, can I claim compensation?
Often yes. If a third party caused the contamination, whether a contractor, a roadworks operation, or a neighbour, you may be entitled to recover the cost of removal. In these cases, we provide detailed photographic damage reports and itemised invoices suitable for submission to insurers, contractors, or legal representatives.
Do you have a workshop, or are you only mobile?
Both. Our mobile teams cover Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire for the majority of jobs. For the most challenging contamination work you can drop the car to our workshop at Unit 1, Brighton City Airport, Shoreham-by-Sea, where we have controlled conditions and the full range of equipment.
